Snorkeling about

I had an interesting, unplanned, snorkelling expedition this week. I went for a swim to cool off and decided to see if I could find any specimens of Brittle Naiad (Najas minor) from beyond our cove.

I did not find any, but this is what I did see:
  • Perch
  • Bass
  • Sunfish
  • A large Chinese Mystery Snail.
  • Plastic bottle
  • A stream of bubbles emanating from the floor of the lake that just went on and on, I estimate that at least 500ml of gas came out.
  • A small male Snapper Turtle about 6" long. I caught him and had a good look at him.
  • A clam moving itself about
  • Old Sunfish nests
  • A crayfish hiding under a rock
  • Bits of PVC pipe from a dock
  • Two very big fishing lures with large hooks in them (disposed of)
  • Numerous types of aquatic plants
  • A benthic barrier
I must have been in the water for about an hour, the water was cool and the visibility was excellent.
