on this fourth anniversary of my father's death, I am reminded of an expression he would sometimes use when encountering poor behavior from someone. He would simply say: "Some people's children!"
I think the expression can now be updated to be: "Most people's children!"
When my mother would encounter a deplorable person or something similarly hideous, she would say "The things you see when you haven't got a gun!"
Not that my mother ever owned, or fired, a gun, it was always very expressive.
Some people's fathers! I was both enthralled and appalled the first time I heard him say, "Jesus wept". I'd never heard it before, and as a newly freed Catholic, this was a liberating thing to say, at the same time as knee-jerk thinking it was blasphemous.
ReplyDeleteHe had a lot of unique, or new to me, expressions that I loved hearing.
